The State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) is a sovereign wealth fund established in 1999 to manage and safeguard Azerbaijan's oil and gas revenues for the benefit of current and future generations. SOFAZ plays a crucial role in preserving national wealth, ensuring intergenerational equity, and promoting sustainable economic development.

SOFAZ oversees a diversified investment portfolio, including international equities, fixed income securities, real estate, and other financial instruments. The Fund's investments are guided by a strategic approach aimed at achieving long-term financial sustainability and contributing to the country's economic stability.

By applying for the Investment Department Analyst role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to SOFAZ’s investment strategy and portfolio management. Your responsibilities will include analyzing investment proposals, conducting due diligence, and monitoring portfolio performance—supporting the Fund’s mission of sustainable management of Azerbaijan’s sovereign wealth.

This role involves analyzing alternative investment opportunities (private equity, real estate, and infrastructure) and preparing investment proposals. The analyst will help manage an alternative investment portfolio ranging from $1 billion to $1.5 billion annually, aiming to achieve returns that exceed industry benchmarks.

What Will You Do?

  • Provide analytical insights into the market, follow the economic trends, and prepare reports.
  • Analyze and prepare proposals for fund, direct and co-investment opportunities.
  • Assess investment proposals and conduct sensitivity and scenario analysis on financial models.
  • Develop cash flow projections and build accurate financial models.
  • Monitor investment portfolio and prepare reports.
  • Build and manage relationships with current and potential investment partners.

What Will You Need?

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Mathematics, etc.). Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Strong financial modeling and statistical analysis skills, with advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
  • 1-3 years of experience in corporate finance, investment advisory (business valuation, M&A, audit), or investment/corporate finance departments of companies and institutions.
  • Strong analytical thinking and market/sector research skills are an advantage.
  • Fluency in Azerbaijani and English is a must. Russian is desirable.
  • CFA or other international finance certifications are preferred.
